We have been providing glamping on our family owned holiday park since 2006.
A lot has changed in that period and many people have started providing glamping on sites from fields with long drop toilets to large corporate parks with bars and swimming pools.
On this page we provide our glamping guests with details of what they can expect from a glamping holiday so you can make and informed decision when booking your glamping holiday.
We agree with the Oxford English Dictionary which defines glamping as "A form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping." On this principle we provide pre-erected glamping accommodation with a double bed, single sofa beds, cutlery & crockery, cooking utensils, barbecue, fire pit, hob, grill & outdoor seating all in a specific area of our family run holiday park which is nestled between the lodge area and the park homes.
The Dorset Glamping Site
We have a been providing holidays on our family run holiday park for over half a century and have provided glamping holidays for over a decade.
To accommodate the relatively 'new' idea of glamping within the pre-existing frame work of the holiday park we have all the glamping accommodation in its own zone nestled between the park homes and the lodges.
Each glamping accommodation has electric power with sockets, an electric light, electric cool box as well as a food storage box which does not require power (designed to keep animals away from the accommodation area.)
We are not permitted to have personal electric kettles, hair straighteners, hair dryers or non branded chargers on the site due to the fire risk & insurance issues.
We provide a range of glamping accommodation from our entry level Bell Tents, larger Family Tent, Yurts that include TV/DVD player and our Country Kabin with two rooms or our flagship Dome that both include TV/DVD and Nespresso coffee machines.
Each glamping unit has its own outside space with a picnic bench occupying a traditional camping pitch within the quarter of an acre that makes up the glamping zone.
The glamping parking is in front of the hedge opposite the laundry. On arrival Site Services will greet you & check you in.
The Setting
The glamping site is located on our family owned holiday park. When the park was created in the 1960's it had to be located off an artery road in the middle of the countryside where we had a café.
Over half a century later the holiday park has had to evolve to cater for the public's constantly changing tastes. The site itself has also seen evolution and diversification; the café has long since gone but the building still survives at the rear entrance of the holiday park along with the traditional service station & complementing entities.
We have expanded the green public spaces with the holiday parks main entrance running along the edge of our 20 acre Lakefield which is home to our small private fishing lake for residents and where we get lovely peach sunsets. For this reason we have placed benches by the lake and we are proud to have hosted 4 wedding proposals and 2 weddings by our lake.
Located on the right hand side of the lodges as you enter from them main gate, the glamping accommodation is behind the hedge. For our guests convenience we have the glamping office at one end of the glamping area and the ablutions block at the opposite end with the glamping accommodation in between.
The Environment
The holiday park is at the foot of a Forestry Commission wooded hill which has an abundance of bluebells at the right time of year.
The lakefield is designed to encourage wildlife and is set as a nature reserve for the season then harvested by local farmers at the end of the season. This encourages an abundance of dragon flies on the lake along with a variety of bird and ducks including swans, geese and morr hens depeding on the time of year.
The holiday park is located off the Sherborne Causeway. Traditionally a causeway is raised road above lower land.
The glamping site is on clay soil this will be hard in hot weather and soft following rain. We recommend checking the weather in the week preceding your stay and packing appropriately. If you don't have wellingtons we have some 'house wellingtons' that can be borrowed in inclement weather.
The Facilities
Our resident Site Services team will greet you on arrival, take you to your accommodation and show you how the facilities work.
Site Services are here to assist our guests and are available in case of emergency 24 hours a day.
As the holiday park serves campers, caravans, lodge guests, park home and glamping holiday guests we have numerous facilities on the holiday park.
The main building at the rear entrance to the holiday park houses a gym and little shop providing essential items within the service station.
The glamping area boarders the central ablutions block with additional showers being located next to the washing up area within the laundry building, opposite the glamping car park and office.
An additional toilet block and washing up area is located next to the main building.
The fishing lake is home to roach, tench and carp. We have a number or garden games available to hire as we'll as a large DVD library guests can borrow from along with board games.
We can also arrange for guests to experience clay shooting by advanced booking.
